Children's book publishers are corporations that bring children's books to market for public consumption.  Children's literature is a particular genre of books that were targeted for children.  There are a number of books in history that have been considered both children's and adult books, such as Huckleberry Finn, Alice's Adventure In Wonderland, and The Wind In The Willows.  These books have appeal to both adults and children, and children's books publishers recognize that fact and take it into account when publishing different children's books.  Books like Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone are published in many languages and read by millions of adults and children alike, even though the book was written for children and targeted toward them.

Publishers further break down children's books for different age groups.  There are books called pre-readers, early readers, chapter books, and young adults.  The age groups for each respective book group are 0-5, 5-7, 7-11, and books for teenagers.  The books for younger children tend to contain more illustrations, while the books for older children contain fewer and fewer illustrations.

The artists who illustrate children's books are usually very talented.  Children's books are often overly detailed in their illustrations.  These kinds of lavish and beautiful illustrations are often not found in adult literature.  Authors prefer illustrators who take words and create images from the words.  This is called the "marriage of pictures and words."

The first children's books came out in 1658.  Before this, there was always a rich tradition of storytelling from adults to children.  There were books written for children before this time, however the books were designed for study purposes.

If a children's book is successful it prompts future books of the same subject matter to be released.  This is how children's book series are born.  A publisher can win big if it catches a series in its early stages that boosts into success later on.  Children's books are enjoyed by both adults and children throughout the world, and children's books publishers will milk a series for all its worth.

In a day and age where the potency of the imagination is decreasing, children's books bring adults back to a time where their imaginations were raw and vivid.  These books are worth their weight in gold as this genre is ever expanding.  Non-fiction books are becoming more popular throughout the world.  More and more adults are beginning to read Harry Potter and other children's books to return to their youthful imaginative selves.
