Business Book Publishers – Taking Business
Books To The Market
Business book publishers are companies that
coordinate the process of developing and bringing business
related books to the market. Business book publishers are
the companies that are involved in the five major aspects of
business book publishing. These aspects are business book
development, marketing, acquisition, printing, and
distribution. Business book publishers are the companies
that negotiate with business book authors to acquire
intellectual property rights over their books, as well as
distribution rights. The publisher will offer the author
some kind of payment up front for these rights, a percentage of
sales, or royalties with more sales, along with other perks,
support and bonuses.
Business book publishers deal with the
author’s directly or through agents. They will negotiate
some way for the author to give up their intellectual rights
over their book. These rights depend on the country in
which the author would like to market his/her books.
Every country has its own intellectual property laws that are
complicated, and often times this step requires the help of
lawyers and other professionals who can more clearly explain
what each law is in each country. There may be digital
printings of the book which must also be regulated by the
publication company. In recent years, downloading from
the internet has been a major form of copyright piracy.
This type of internet crime is not convicted or prosecuted in
most countries, leaving a major problem for authors who wish to
distribute their book via the internet as well. Although
potential advantages may outweigh potential disadvantages of
using the internet for distribution, the fact remains that
copyright piracy will be an issue for publishers of all kinds
of media for the next century.
Finally business book publishers are the
companies that will edit the book, create the book, and finally
package the book for sale. This process requires a team
of people including editors, copyeditors, artists, writers and
other higher level executives. The amount of editing that
occurs depends on the author and his/her respective
clout. The book publisher then distributes the book and
produces the book. The book may be produced by a third
party or within the company. The distribution of the book
may go all over the nation or to a select number of
stores. The bookstores negotiate a deal with the business
book publication companies for the right to display their
books.
